Feedback on National Policy Positions

In 2006, AGPN developed, with consultation from the network, a policy on policy development for the network. This was developed to identify processes for the development of national, network policies or position statements. The ability of SBOs to coordinate state level feedback to national issues has been demonstrated since the implementation of this policy.

The policy articulates a method of communicating effectively with the wide variety of ideas, views and issues, via SBO CEOs to all divisional CEOs. SBOs have existing methods of effectively workshopping and consulting with their member divisions in each state that works best for their particular jurisdiction. For example, many SBOs utilise consultation methods which include state forums and workshops/ chief executive officer networks/ regular teleconferences etc. In this way, AGPN will primarily relate and communicate with the SBOs who will, in turn, have the responsibility of forwarding information out to Divisions, and from Divisions to AGPN.

It is up to individual CEOs to ascertain the level of GP and Board level involvement in the organisation’s position and feedback, which is provided to SBOs. SBOs will consolidate and synthesise a state view of the issue, idea or solution. AGPN will then consolidate and synthesise a national position.

This method of consultation was successfully implemented in the development of the network strategy launched in November 2007.

On issues that affect AGPN only (for example, AGPN governance review), AGPN will communicate directly with all of its members.
